The procedure for filling this vacancy will be
discussed at the March 26th Board meeting.

Thank you!

Guerneville School students have been enjoying excellent success in academic competitions lately.  From left to right: 8th grader Jonah Hatt earned 1st place in the Sonoma County Spelling Bee and is advancing to the California State Spelling Bee on May 3rd in Marin County; 6th grader Savannah Herbert took 1st place at the Sonoma County Science Fair and will be showing her exhibit on Ice Bubbles at the California State Science Fair in Los Angeles on May 18th and 19th; and 7th grader Wesley Schiavone scored high enough in his geography knowledge to be invited as one of the 100 semifinalists to the California State National Geographic Bee held in Fresno.

If our students participate in the Learnstorm challenge from Khan Academy,

Then our school will unlock free devices and home internet access for students:

· Google.org will fully fund classroom technology up to a value of $7,500 for smaller schools (for example this could buy one laptop cart plus 30 Chromebooks for a school) and up to $15,000 for schools with more than 300 students through DonorsChoose.org.

· Internet Essentials from Comcast will fully fund 6 months of free home internet access for all eligible students and their families.

This is an incredible opportunity for our school to get a class set of Chromebooks for free, and for our students to participate in the Learnstorm challenge from Khan Academy. But, time is of the essence; we must get our students participating quickly, before the money for the Chromebooks is gone.

Students have been signed up for Khan Academy with me as their coach. For our school to get credit, they should access Khan Academy through their school Google Apps account.

Parents, please encourage your children to participate at home if they have internet access.

Students, let’s see how much you can learn in the next two weeks, and earn some Chromebooks for our school while you’re at it!

Good Luck Gators,

     Mr. Robinson

Pennies For Patients Results

Wow! Way to go Gators; through your efforts we raised $959.88 to help find a cure for Leukemia and Lymphoma. We had three classes that raised over $100.00: Mrs. Bracken’s raised $121.89, Mrs. Johnson’s raised $133.87, and Mrs. Deering/Robinson’s raised $139.30.

Our top fundraising class, with over $200.00, and the winners of a pizza party are Mrs. Daniels’ 3rd graders! They raised $202.14!

Middle Schoolers did well at county Science fair!

On Friday, February 27th, several of Ms. Carter's middle school science students represented the Guerneville Gators at the 2015 Synopsys-Sonoma County Science Fair held at Sonoma State University. Twenty public and private schools participated by exhibiting over 100 projects.  Guerneville students took ribbons in all 3 places: two projects took 3rd, two won 2nd, and one student took 1st place!  Our 1st place winner will be showing her exhibit on Ice Bubbles at the California State Science Fair in Los Angeles on May 18th and 19th.  Everyone who attended the fair had a blast and deserves our best congratulations!

Guerneville Elementary School Wellness Committee

The GES Wellness Committee will start meeting in the beginning of February to set new goals and examine our school's existing Wellness Policy.

What role can parents play? As a parent, you know your children and their needs better than anyone. By getting involved with your local wellness team you can help create, monitor and enhance school policies that will improve their school environment.

The first meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 5th from 3 pm to 4 pm in the Kitchen Classroom Portable (next to the Preschool). Future meetings will be held the first Thursday of the month from 3 to 4 pm.

Our school is participating in a Pennies for Patients fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The fundraiser runs for just 3 weeks, Feb. 9-26. During this time we are hoping to raise $1,200  from spare change (each class is trying to raise $100). Students will be coming home with a letter explaining the great benefit of this program and donation boxes they can use.
