“SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS NEEDED!!
If you enjoy driving and working with students in an independent environment, consider school bus driving as your career. West County Transportation Agency is now accepting applications from individuals who are interested in being trained for employment now. School bus driving is the perfect part-time opportunity for a college student, retiree, mom or dad with a side business or anyone else who needs a supplemental income and prefers the flexibility to be off for Winter and Spring Break. Many drivers take the summer off, but we also have lots of work available in the summer. We provide the classroom and behind-the-wheel training free of charge. We pay you $250 for classroom training and $250 for behind-the-wheel training and ensure that you are fully prepared before you transport any students. We offer competitive wages ($16.16 per hour to start) and excellent fringe benefits. We will pay a $300 bonus for already licensed school bus drivers! Application forms and information are available at: West County Transportation Agency, 367 West Robles Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95407. Apply ASAP. 707-206-9988.”
Middle School Study Update
Dear Guerneville Parents & Families,
As you are aware, the Guerneville School District has recently revisited the possibility of partnering with West Sonoma County Union High School District and the Forestville Union School District to potentially offer a new 7-8th grade Middle School Charter Program at the Forestville School Campus beginning in the 2016-2017 school year.
After much consideration, fiscal analysis and parent, staff and community input, the Guerneville School Board unanimously voted at a Special Board Meeting (October 29, 2015) to conclude its current participation in this study option. While, the Board understands and supports the concept of a middle school program that could possibly offer a different and enriching program sponsored by the High School District, due to many unknowns, concluded that this could not be offered without the negatively impacting the overall K-6 programming needs of the Guerneville School District at this time. In fact, using “aggressively optimistic” figures, the fiscal projections, at best, painted a possible long-term stagnant District budget. In addition to fiscal considerations, the Board weighed other factors; such as the future employment of its current highly qualified staff, the need to offer an option to parents who do not choose to send their child to a pubic charter school and the huge academic success that our student graduates have had and are continuing to experience.
As the incoming Superintendent who has quickly worked to understand the interests of all in regards to this study, I appreciate the feedback received by our various stakeholders as we consider what is best for all of our students for many years to come.
I am confident we will collectively continue to build upon the current successes of our ever-evolving Guerneville Middle School Program. The staff, community, and FOGS (Friends of Guerneville School), have diligently worked to seek ways to provide further enrichment and community-based opportunities for our students. Together, with this momentum and focus on high standards, our students’ futures will continue to excel.
It is my pleasure to announce that the Guerneville School District will continue to offer full K-8 programming for the 2016-2017 school year!
